Family Support Groups

Family and friends of individuals living with a mental illness meet with others to share their concerns, compare experiences and learn from each other in a Support Group supported by NAMI Minnesota.

Brooklyn Center: 2nd Thursday: 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm

New Parent Support Group in Minneapolis:  Beginning October 8th
Do You Have a Child that Lives with a Mental Illness?
Parent Support Groups help parents discover resources to meet the challenges of raising a child with a mental illness, learn coping skills and develop problem solving skills.
Parents and Caregivers of children under 18 living with, but not limited to: ADHD, Anxiety, Autism, Bipolar, Depression, Eating Disorders, Schizophrenia, and others are welcome. Support groups are facilitated by a parent who has a child with a mental illness and who has received specialized training.

Group Details:
  • 2nd Saturday of the month, 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm
  • Minneapolis, NCE Wellness, 4151 Thomas Ave. N
  • No registration necessary

Support Groups for Spouses / Partners of People Living with a Mental Illness
This group is for spouses, domestic partners, and people who share child-rearing responsibilities with a person who has mental illness.

Minneapolis: 1st Friday of each month from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM

St Paul:  The group meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6:45 p.m., at Falcon Heights United Church of Christ, 1795 Holton St. (Holton & Garden). For information, call Lois at 651-788-1920, or Donna at 651-645-2948 ext. 101.

Daughters & Sons Support Group
For adult children who have a parent living with a mental illness.

Parent TeleConnection Support Group
Description: Parent TeleConnection is a web-based support group for parents who live with a mental illness and have school-aged children. This opportunity is intended for parents who cannot attend a support group in person due to transportation, physical disabilities, or lack of peer support groups in their communities.

This group is provided online and in real time. It is led by NAMI trained individuals who live with a mental illness, have children of their own and are living well in recovery.

Participates will need a device such as a computer with a microphone and optional webcam, a tablet, or smart phone.
